Frequently Asked Questions

Does Washington State sales tax apply?

As of October 2025, all marketing services in Washington State are subject to the state’s 9% sales tax. There is a specific exception for website hosting, which is not subject to the tax.

How do I know which pricing model is best?

We can help figure that out when we connect. Hourly works well for smaller, open-ended tasks. If your project has a clear scope, we’ll likely recommend a fixed price so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Do you charge for meetings or project management?

Yes, but only when it makes sense. Initial meetings, quick check-ins, and email clarifications are on us. If there’s heavy planning, research, or coordination involved, we’ll include it in the estimate or track it hourly — no surprises.

How do estimates work?

Once we understand your goals, we’ll send you a clear estimate outlining the work, timeline, and cost. If your objectives need to shift mid-project, we’ll communicate any scope or cost changes before moving forward.

How do you bill?

For hourly work, we bill in 15-minute increments with a 1-hour minimum. Invoices are typically sent weekly or biweekly. Fixed-price projects are usually split 50% up-front and 50% on completion, or based on clearly-defined phases for larger-scope engagements. Retainers are billed monthly, with a minimum 3 month commitment after which the engagement is month-to-month.

Do you offer discounts for nonprofits?

Yes, sometimes! We believe in supporting organizations that are doing good work. Let us know about your mission and what you need help with: depending on our current workload, we can sometimes offer reduced rates or extra flexibility for nonprofits and community-focused groups.

What if I have a tight budget?

We’re open to finding creative ways to make it work. That could mean trimming scope, phasing the project, or offering initial consulting to point you in the right direction. If your startup has a ping-pong table, we might even accept equity.

Can you mix hourly and fixed pricing?

Absolutely. We often do a fixed rate for a main project, then use hourly billing for post-launch tweaks or ongoing support.

Do you offer rush services?

Sometimes. If you’re on a tight timeline, let us know. We’ll be honest about what we can take on and whether any rush fees would apply.

Do you accept trade or partial trade?

We’re open to it! We’ve found that trade can be a great way to build relationships and gain deeper insight into a client’s business. If you offer something we can use (services, space, beer, etc.), we’re happy to explore a fair partial trade arrangement. Just let us know what you have in mind.

Are there cheaper options out there?

Indubitably! We don’t claim to be the cheapest, but we focus on doing things right the first time. We aim for quality, effectiveness, and long-term value.
